Imagine in Clay!
Kids love clay. It's a magical medium with endless possibilities. Now in its 20th year, this engaging summer program provides a great opportunity to spend a week exploring the world of clay and glazes.
Camp meets in a spacious light-filled Berkeley ceramics studio with a focus on process and learning new skills. We'll have fun creating in a relaxed environment making sculpture and functional work. Each week is limited to a small group with a maximum of eight campers. Though we'll mostly be working with wet clay, materials such as wood, metal, or tile will also be included. Your child's imagination will be stimulated through both structured projects and independent work.
During breaks kids play under the shade of a beautiful oak tree. At the end of the week, when the glazed pieces emerge from the kiln, the group puts on an art show for family and friends.
Dianne Stockler is an artist and art instructor who taught ceramics for fifteen years at Studio One Art Center in Oakland and at Malcolm X and other Berkeley schools. Formerly an artist-in-residence at Stanley Middle School in Lafayette and the Exploratorium in San Francisco.
The studio is located south of UC Berkeley, in the Elmwood, off of College Ave.
